ALLENTON SCHOOL JUNIOR SWIMMING PROGRAMME 2016
ROOMS 10 & 12 EA Networks Centre -March 8th –March 18th Time: 11:00am-12:00pm NEWSLETTER Once again our swimming programme in the Community Pool is about to proceed for this year. We are aware we have many families who have not had the chance to participate in this part of Health and Physical Education since arriving at Allenton School. We now have a programme where swimming is taught by the Pool Coaches and this will continue this year. This allows teachers to be free to supervise the children not swimming and help in the changing sheds. Swimming is, as you know, part of our Physical Education Curriculum and as such has the support of our Board of Trustees. It also plays an important part in our lifestyle as New Zealanders. During our summer and because of our close proximity to water wherever we are, it is important that we are all knowledgeable and confident in water safety and skills. In previous years most children have made considerable progress as they learn to go under the water, float, and generally learn to respect water whilst having fun. For this to happen it is essential that children participate in learning at the pool for all sessions. We therefore ask for your support and encouragement to ensure children participate every day. Swimming is a part of the school curriculum and is therefore not optional. If your child is hesitant in any way, please contact your class teacher so that appropriate encouragement and support can be given. (Send a note to the teacher if you have any concerns about any reluctance to take part.) We do not pressure anyone, but in knowing that children will benefit from this programme, there will be much encouragement! Teamwork between home and school works wonders. When children can’t swim for medical reasons, please send a note to the class teacher. Children will travel by bus to and from the pool each day. At present school levies cover all swimming costs so no payment is required. Please ensure swimming gear and all clothes are named. Togs should be sent to school in bags into which clothes can be placed while swimming. Please complete the enclosed form and return to your child’s class teacher Friday 12th Februrary Amy Huggins & Alison Cox **A roster stating dates and times will be sent to you by Wednesday March 2nd I CAN ASSIST WITH: SUPERVISING DRESSING Please circle the ones you are able to help with. We choose a random picture out of the newspaper and without reading the article brainstorm what we think the person in the picture might be thinking or saying. We look at clues such as their facial expressions, body language and what is going on in the picture around the person. Here is today's picture and our comments. You might recognise the famous person in the photo
This week we have been learning about place value. We have been looking at the thousands, hundreds, tens and ones column. We played a game called Number Hangman to practise what we have learnt. |
